Laurel Martin, Mark Roberts & Kieran Jordan
Massachusetts residents Laurel Martin (fiddle), Mark Roberts (flute, banjo, bouzouki & percussion), and Kieran Jordan (sean-nós / “old style” step dance) perform traditional Irish music with the sweetest of melodies and heartiest of grooves. As long-time friends through music, these three artists have collaborated previously in other configurations, and they have toured and performed together as part of the fiddle ensemble, Childsplay. As a new trio, they present tasteful music selections with dance woven in, as rhythmic accompaniment and visual imaginative movement. Performing with lyricism and consummate skill, this group also sprinkles their concerts with entertaining and heart-felt anecdotes, promising an uplifting show of good tunes, good steps, and good spirits.

Atlantic Steps is the inspiring story of Ireland’s “old style” dance — sean-nós. Centered around the vision of extraordinary Irish dancer Brian Cunningham and leading US choreographer Kieran Jordan, the show turns the focus back to the source of percussive Irish dance, revitalizing steps that originated on Ireland’s West Coast, and following their journey of intersection with new styles across the Atlantic.
Produced by Oisín Mac Diarmada, the show comprises an exceptional cast of 10 dancers and musicians from both sides of the Atlantic, along with specially commissioned scenic images from Irish artist Vincent Crotty, and lighting design from Stephen Petrilli. Unique within the genre of post-Riverdance Irish dance shows, Atlantic Steps continues to move festival and theatre audiences to their feet, playing an important role in the renaissance of sean-nós dance far beyond its Irish origins.
